Examination
The Himachal Pradesh University Shimla introduced RUSA-CBCS system from the 2013-14 academic session. In CBCS for evaluation the Continuous comprehensive Assessment (CCA) and End Semester Examination (ESE) were introduced. For the batches 2017-18 onwards, the Continuous Comprehensive Assessment (CCA) accounts for 30% of the final grade that a student gets in a course and End-Semester Examination (ESE) accounts for the remaining 70% of the final grade that the student gets in a course.
The institution ensures that the students are aware of the evaluation process through the college prospectus and orientation programme held at the beginning of every academic year. The transparency in internal assessment has been maintained according to specific parameters fixed by the HPU, SPU and HPTU while assigning internal assessment. These parameters are uniform for all affiliated colleges in the state.
Internal Assessment is Transparent:
Continuous Comprehensive Assessment has weightage around 30%-50% depending upon courses. The constructive and collective assessment is compiled on the basis of the following criteria:
- Conducting class tests regularly
- By giving regular assignments to the students by the course teachers
- Conducting seminars, and presentations
- Ensuring students’ active participation in the class
- Conducting question-answer sessions regularly in the class
- Organizing tutorial sessions
- Maintenance of CCA register
Internal assessment of the institution consists of:
(i) Attendance (5 Marks)
- Each student has to attend a minimum of 75% lectures. A student having less than 75% attendance is not allowed to appear in the End-Semester Examination (ESE)/ Annual Examination. However exemption upto certain extent can be given to those who have participated in co-curricular activities (NCC, NSS, Sports and Youth Festivals) or by producing medical certificate. Students who participate in various co-curricular activities are given 10 to 20% attendance by college Principal.
- 75% but < 80% = 1 marks
- 80% but <85% = 2 marks
- 85 but <90% = 3 marks
- 90% but < 95% = 4 marks
- 95% = 5 marks
(ii)Mid-Term Test (15 Marks):
- One mid-term test is conducted when approximately 2/3 of the syllabus gets covered. This mid-term test is for 15 or 10 marks depending on the University syllabai. Mid-term tests are conducted by the college in consultation with the teachers.
- The answer books of the students are evaluated by the concerned teachers and the answer scripts are shown to the students so that they can get acquainted with their
short comings in their attempts.
(iii)Seminar/Assignment (10 marks):
Ten (10) marks of the CCA are awarded on the basis of seminars/assignments that the course teacher gives to the students.
After registration every student fills the examination form from his/her personal ID available in the affiliating university management system and the teachers upload the students’ assessment from their IDs which is verified by the Principal of the college. After fulfilling the assessment criteria the admit cards of the students are generated.
